Intent

At Sythwood Primary and Nursery School, it is our intent to make music an enjoyable and fulfilling learning experience that builds their cultural capital. We aim for children to gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, analysing, and composing across a variety of musical styles. We want our children to develop a curiosity for the subject, as well as an understanding and acceptance of importance of all types of music, and a respect for the role that music may wish to be expressed in any person’s life. Central to the ethos of the teaching of music is the belief that music is within our bodies, and as different bodies make different sounds, everybody carries their music with them, each instrument as unique as the person is.
