We want to encourage a love of reading in children. It not only introduces them to new words and increases their vocabulary but it will help with their reading and language skills as they get older too. Surrey Family Information Services have talked to early language experts and photographed real families and put together the following leaflets.

How parents can help with reading

Reading aloud to children is one of the best ways to get them interested in books. When you help your child learn to read, you are opening the door to a world of learning. The leaflet below shows you some ways to get the most out of reading to your child.

Libraries

Libraries are a great place to go to borrow books and if you need some new ideas, check out their book suggestions. They run all sorts of events, like rhymetime and storytime you can join in with. And their Pebble Penguin library card is just for under fives.
