The Junior building was opened in 1977 and our Infant building was opened in 1988. This was designed by an architect and is very unusual and quite spectacular. In 2008 the Children’s Centre was added to the Infant building. We have a nursery in the Infant building with flexible childcare options. We are also in the process of converting the caretaker’s bungalow in to further provision for 2 year old nursery children. In September 2015 we opened a new unit for Reception aged children.
Our playgrounds have interesting and exciting play equipment and we have a large playing field for sports and outdoor activities. We also have a floodlit, multi-use games area for tennis, netball, and football. We have recently had an outdoor gym installed which is a unique asset to Sythwood School.
We have excellent facilities for learning including a superb fully equipped computer suite with thirty one networked computers each with a flat screen. This is sited in our spacious Atrium alongside the well-stocked library. The library is organised in a child friendly way so that children can have access to books for their own personal research. Every class room and other teaching areas have interactive whiteboards or touch sensitive screens which are used to make lessons more fun and exciting.
Our buildings are in grounds that were originally part of the renowned Slococks Nursery and we have been careful to keep evidence of this in our nature area, which we call 'The Copse'. We have a wide variety of trees and wildlife in our Copse and all the children make regular visits to keep a 'Copse Diary' to record the seasonal changes.
