Our Curriculum

Throughout our early years classes we teach a topic based curriculum whilst focussing on the key skills children will need to succeed. The curriculum is a creative and thematic approach to learning that is mapped out to ensure comprehensive coverage of national expectations. The curriculum is delivered through careful planning which will provide a rich menu of exciting and motivating learning activities that make creative links between all aspects of our children’s learning.

We believe children learn best when they are encouraged to use their imagination and apply their learning to engaging contexts. The curriculum will provide lots of learning challenges throughout the academic year that will require children to solve problems, apply themselves creatively and express their knowledge and understanding effectively across the curriculum and develop their characteristics of effective learning.

The curriculum for the Early Years Foundation Stage in our school reflects the areas of learning identified in the Early Learning Goals. The experiences that our children meet often enable them to develop a number of competencies, skills and concepts across several areas of learning. The Early Learning Goals provide the basis for planning throughout the Early Years Foundation Stage. Teachers use national schemes of work where appropriate to support the planning for individual children in reception.

By the end of the Reception year in our school, children have daily mathematics and literacy sessions. We also aim to ensure that maths and literacy are incorporated into every area of learning to provide opportunities for linking their use to real life situations.
